PROJECT 1:Moblie Application Proposal W1-4

Welcome to My PROJECT 1 on Application Design 1 !

WEEK 1 :

Summary:
  • Introduction to the Class:
The instructor begins by explaining the structure of the course. The first session is shortened, with future classes involving more activities and feedback sessions. Assignments and projects will be reviewed progressively.
  • Assignments and Feedback:
The instructor emphasizes one-on-one feedback on student assignments, particularly in application design, which is more complex than design principles. This involves thorough research, including competitor analysis and understanding the target audience.
  • Instructor's Background:
The instructor shares their experience in architecture and digital marketing, explaining the relevance of these fields to teaching application design. The instructor also mentions supervising final-year projects related to creative media.
  • Focus on Practical Projects:
The class encourages students to focus on practical projects like redesigning applications, with an emphasis on understanding competitors, target audiences, and conducting user research.

Self-Reflection:

The one-on-one feedback emphasized in the course is an opportunity to actively engage with the material and the instructor. To make the most of it, I will regularly share my progress and seek constructive feedback to ensure I stay aligned with expectations.About research skills,A major takeaway from the class is the importance of conducting thorough research, whether it is for competitor analysis, understanding user personas , or mapping the  customer journey. I need to dedicate more time to researching existing applications and gaining deeper insights into the needs and behaviors of users.

WEEK 2:

Summary:

The teacher told us in class that the core concepts of application design include user-centered design (UCD), user experience design (UX), and user interface design (UI). The design process includes discovery/analysis, definition, creativity, design, verification, development and other stages, including determining business needs and target audiences, analyzing user portraits, user processes and functions, making prototypes, and conducting usability testing.

It also covers the key principles of application design: consistency, simplicity, and visibility. Provide users with operation confirmation and clear signals to guide them to complete tasks, which can be achieved through text messages, visual prompts, sound and tactile feedback.

Self-Reflection:

In future actual designs, these knowledge and principles can be used to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of existing products, discover potential problems, and improve them during the design process. For example, when designing interfaces, focus on consistency and simplicity to improve product usability and user experience.

Avoid user errors and improve efficiency and accuracy through input verification, clear feedback and confirmation steps.

WEEK 3:
Summary:
  1. Core Points of User Experience Design

    • User-Centered Approach

      • The design of the application aims to meet user needs and help them efficiently achieve their goals. Whether it’s purchasing products or using other functions, it is essential to avoid making users spend excessive time on complex operations, as this can lead to user attrition. For example, if users find it difficult to search for products in an e-commerce app or encounter cumbersome payment processes, their satisfaction with the app will decrease.
    • Emphasis on User Analysis Before Design

      • It is crucial to conduct user analysis before design. Feedback can be obtained by testing the app oneself or having friends try it out to understand users' feelings and the issues they encounter during use.
  2. The Close Connection Between Application Design and Business Value

    • Designers should not only focus on the aesthetics of the design but also consider how the design can create commercial value for the enterprise. A good application design should guide users toward making purchases and increase the company’s revenue.

Self-Reflection:
If you are not proficient enough in mastering design principles, you may neglect consistency or simplicity in actual operations. When designing the interface, the overall consistency may be destroyed due to the pursuit of unique design effects, or too many unnecessary elements may be added to the functional design, affecting the simplicity of the application.

WEEK 4:

This week, we gave an A1 speech about mobile software research related to our application design. Last week, we primarily focused on researching three similar apps: Xiaohongshu, Douyin, and Kuaishou. We examined the main introductions and features of these three apps, identified their disadvantages, and analyzed user feedback from the Apple Store.

Using insights from these three apps, I extended my study for this week's final assignment. I primarily focused on Xiaohongshu and also compared and contrasted the aesthetics of the homepage interfaces of Douyin and Kuaishou. Additionally, I outlined ways to further improve Xiaohongshu, identified its shortcomings, assessed the display of its features, and discussed its target user group.

I have compiled a comprehensive list of my findings, and the following is my detailed final assignment.
