Welcome to My PROJECT 2 on Application Design 1 !
WEEK 5 :Card sorting
LEARN:
The teacher talked about the core points of user experience design in class, and user research methods were divided into open research, closed research and guided research.
Later, the teacher arranged for us to do in-class activities. He asked us three to four students to divide into a group, write the words of the picture below on sticky notes, and draw up topics based on the following content for classification research and discussion, and based on The first study is to make an App research type and then proceed to the previous study. In this way, we conduct classification research and discussion based on the topic. What we are doing is e-learning platform. Finally, after we send the first and second research we did to the teacher, each group will go on stage to explain the specific content of our classification research.
WEEK 6:
We have no classes this week because Thursday is a public holiday, but the teacher left us homework and asked us to extend it based on the group classification and research app classification activities we did in class last week, so this week we have to classify Study the app we mainly studied before and classify it into specific functions. If you want to add or delete functions in this category, explain it and write down why you want to do so.
WEEK 7:User Experience research and UI/UX Design document
LEARN 1:
User experience (UX) plays a key role in product development, emphasizing that effective UX research can increase user satisfaction and sales. Through reasonable methods and continuous user feedback, companies can ensure consistency with user needs during the design process, thereby creating more attractive products.
The Importance of UX Research
User behavior understanding:
Effective UX research helps understand user behavior, needs, and attitudes through observation and feedback collection.
Integration in the design process:
UX research should be conducted at all stages of product development, from proof of concept to iterative design and once the product is released, to ensure that the design is consistent with user needs.
Continuous feedback:
After a product is released, UX research still provides valuable insights into user interaction and satisfaction, guiding future updates and iterations.
research methods
Qualitative research:
In-depth understanding of users’ attitudes, motivations and experiences through user interviews, observations and other methods.
Quantitative Research:
Use online surveys, analytical tools, and more to collect numerical data to support evidence-based design decisions.
User testing:
Assessing the usability and user satisfaction of a product by having representative users complete specific tasks.
Research steps
Define research objectives:
identify the knowledge areas and hypotheses to be explored.
Choose a research method:
Choose an appropriate qualitative or quantitative method based on your goals.
Recruit participants: Find the right users to conduct research with.
Conduct user research:
implement selected methods, collect data.
Analyze and report results:
Collate research results to identify user needs and design opportunities.
Reflection 1:
The diversity of UX research has taught me that different research methods have their own unique advantages and can reveal different levels of user experience. For example, qualitative research can provide deep user insights, while quantitative research can provide solid data support for decision-making. In my future work, I will strive to use these methods flexibly to gain a more comprehensive user understanding.
Through my understanding of user experience research, I became more aware of its importance in product design. Every design decision should be thought about the needs of the user, which not only improves the usefulness and appeal of the product, but also promotes lasting user relationships. In the future, I will pay more attention to UX research and integrate its concepts into my work.
LEARN 2:
The teacher took us into an in-depth discussion of the core role of user personas in product design, emphasizing the importance of accurately constructing user personas to understand user needs and optimize product experience. The following are the main contents:
Construction of user roles
Multiple research methods:
Actively collect user information through user interviews, questionnaires, data analysis, etc. to form a comprehensive user portrait.
Characteristics of user personas:
These personas not only cover users’basic information (such as age, gender, occupation, etc.), but also include behavior patterns, motivations, needs, and pain points.
Understand user preferences and pain points
Preference identification:
Clarifying users' preferences when using products helps guide the product's functional design and interface layout.
Management of pain points:
Identifying problems encountered by users during use (such as inconvenient functions, unclear information, etc.) is crucial to product improvement.
Increase user engagement
Engagement and Satisfaction:
Engagement and satisfaction increase significantly when users feel that their needs are fully understood and attended to.
Interactive design:
Improve user activity in the product by creating user-friendly interfaces and effective interactive processes.
Reduce user churn
Product improvement strategy:
By continuously collecting user feedback and prioritizing user pain points, user churn can be effectively prevented.
Retention rate improvement:
These strategies not only improve retention rates, but also attract more new users through word-of-mouth effect.
Feature priority evaluation
Create a feature and role matrix:
Correspond to user roles and product features to form a matrix to help the product team intuitively understand the importance of each feature to different user roles.
Scoring mechanism:
Evaluate feature priorities by controlling standard scores to ensure that resources are focused on the features that can best improve the user experience.
The impact of user personas on product decisions
Guide product development:
User roles provide data support and guide the design of product functions, optimization of interfaces, and improvement of user experience.
Multi-dimensional consideration:
Integrating feedback from user roles in product decisions helps ensure that the designed product can meet diverse user needs.
Reflection 2:
Creating a matrix of user personas and product features taught me how to effectively evaluate the impact of each feature on different user personas. By controlling the standard scoring method, I can more rationally determine which features should be developed first, thereby optimizing resource allocation
Assignment for this week We need to create a series of questions for users to study after completing the first project and demonstrating it. I decided to use a questionnaire as the research method for this assignment. Through surveys, we will be able to collect a wealth of insightful data from participants, which will help me better understand their preferences and experiences using the Redbook app.
We will then email the questionnaire to the teacher for review. He identified areas for improvement and came up with improved structures to enhance my survey questions. After making the necessary changes, I've moved all questions into a Google Form for respondents to answer. The plan I made was to connect not only Taylor participants, but also those who were actively using the software. My goal is to survey at least 50 people. We will also find 5 people to conduct video interviews as a survey.
WEEK 8:
survey questionnaire:50
Interview video:5 people
LEARN:
Discuss the application of user journey mapping and digital card sorting in UI/UX design. User journey maps provide design teams with visual steps for users to achieve their goals and emphasize the importance of understanding user emotions and pain points while helping to prioritize development needs. Digital card sorting optimizes content organization and information architecture through research and user participation, thereby improving user experience.
The teacher talked about how we should do the assessment 2 requirements in class
Digital card sorting: 7
Digital Card Sorting : need to conduct this exercise with 7 participants . It's important that you find actual individuals to participate, as creating the results yourself is not beneficial. The recommended platform for this task is Optimal Workshop.
User Journey Map : only need to produce one user journey map. can use the template available in Miro for this purpose.
I used UX weak as my digital card sorting tool and have collected 7 responses.
After collecting all the responses from the digital card sort, I have created my Information Architecture Diagram outlining the main content and functionality of the app (final version)
Reflection
In practical applications, I may encounter difficulties in accurately grasping user needs and behaviors, resulting in imprecise user process designs that fail to meet user expectations. For relatively complex processes, I may face challenges in integrating user processes and ensuring overall coherence, and I need to further enhance my systematic thinking and planning abilities. When using flowchart tools, my proficiency in these tools may not be sufficient, which affects my efficiency and the quality of my work. Therefore, I should strengthen practical operations to improve my application capabilities.
WEEK 10 :UI/UX Design Document (MVP and Wireframe)
LEARN:
This week the teacher taught us what MVP is. This is what I made this week and my final PPT.

I felt that creating the user flow diagram was a particularly interesting section because it felt like a big mind map and really tested my logical thinking. I also gained a deep appreciation for actually using the app. This hands-on experience allowed me to gain a better understanding of their customer service.
