 Week 11- Initial design inspiration
LEARN:
The teacher asked us to find two mood boards on Pinterest for inspiration for our own design Assessment 3, such as what the shape of the exterior should look like, and we can find some ideas based on the 13 design principles we learned before.

After finishing the mood board, we have to write a brief introduction to our project based on our inspiration, give it a nice name, and briefly describe its functions and other effects. And make a program for our design to find some pictures about some elements of specific facilities and what specific space you want to make. You can find out the specific type of design you want to make based on the user journey map in the PPT we made in the previous homework Assessment 2. Find inspiration on Pinterest through these types, and you can divide them into organizational aspects. For example, in the example the teacher showed us, his program wrote about three aspects: intercitive corner, rest zone and flow pathy, and explained what the role of this aspect is. Through these contents, we can draw our initial inspiration on butter paper, and we can first draw the external design, from abstract to our own design, and finally make further designs on Blender. We can create according to the 13 design principles we learned before and other knowledge about space design.

Reflection
Regarding the preliminary design, I feel that I lack innovative consciousness. In the process of looking for inspiration, I may rely too much on existing design resources, resulting in my own design lacking unique innovations. In the future design process, I need to pay more attention to cultivating my innovative thinking, try to think about problems from different angles, and create more personalized designs. Although I have learned a lot of design principles and methods in theory, I may still have some operational difficulties in practical applications. For example, when applying the design to actual scenes, I may encounter some problems that I am not aware of. I need more practical opportunities and reading materials to accumulate experience and improve my own design ability.
Through this reflection on design learning, I realized my strengths and weaknesses in the design process and clarified the direction of future improvement. I believe that through continuous learning and practice, I can make greater progress in the field of design.
Week 12Preliminary design draft
This week I made some preliminary designs on draft paper. I can draw their general outlines from three or four different angles. When drawing, I should think about what our own design mainly uses, and it should be interactive and flexible. After the design is completed, I should make an A3-sized analysis chart, analyze the design of each part, and write down all the design elements and ideas.
I have made some similar 3D models before, so it is much easier for me to draw sketches. Through these, I can make models directly on blender.

Reflection
During the sketching process, I found that I often only stayed on the surface of the design, without digging deep into the functionality and practicality behind the design. Before starting the design, I should have a deeper understanding of the needs and purpose of the design, including its usage scenarios, user needs, etc. Through this preliminary design sketch practice, I realized my strengths and weaknesses in the design process. In future design work, I will continue to improve my methods and enhance my design capabilities.
Week 13Preliminary design draft,Blender
NO.1
Today we conducted a preliminary design draft research in class. Last week, the teacher asked me to model on Blender, and then I showed him my modeling in class.

The teacher gave me some feedback:
He felt that my design did not reflect the design concept I wanted to create, as it was too concrete. This was a model and draft I had made a long time ago, and he felt that it could be used anywhere, rather than a design that required too much thought and creativity. He asked me to use my imagination to extend it a little bit, and not to limit it to a wall or a board. If that were the case, then it would not be called design and there would be no creativity at all.
Later, the teacher asked me to measure the length and width of the place I was going to design and calculate the area of this place.
NO.2
Later, the teacher asked me to measure the length and width of the place I was going to design and calculate the area of this place.

The teacher gave me some feedback:
The teacher said that my idea did not reflect the concept of curves and layers that I had found in the mood board before. My idea and starting point were correct, but there was still no layered relationship, as if every function and activity had to be layered instead of being together.

NO.3
Later, I continued to look for inspiration and found some general concepts of what I wanted to design, so I drew them on draft paper and showed them to the teacher. Through communication and thinking between the teacher and I, I finally finalized the design I wanted to make. Later, I continued to look for inspiration and found some general concepts of what I wanted to design, so I drew them on draft paper and showed them to the teacher. Through communication and thinking between the teacher and I, I finally finalized the design I wanted to make. I could start to see my model on Blender and then show it to him.

During this week, the main tasks were to make preliminary design drafts and use Blender to advance modeling. This process involved multiple communications and feedback with the teacher, as well as in-depth thinking on the design concept and measurement and analysis of the site dimensions.
Reflection

During the design process, the thinking was too limited, and the design was not thought about from a more macro and diverse perspective, which led to the problem of oversimplification of the design.
In the process of communicating with the teacher, although the teacher gave a lot of feedback and suggestions, there was still a certain lag in my understanding and absorption of these opinions. Sometimes I couldn't immediately understand the teacher's intention, which led to repeated confirmation when modifying the design, wasting a certain amount of time.

Before starting future design projects, spend more time on the excavation and refinement of design concepts. By consulting relevant materials, studying similar cases, etc., find the core inspiration of the design, and record and organize it in detail to ensure that you can always create around this core throughout the design process.
Communicate design concepts with classmates and teachers more often, and constantly improve and deepen your ideas during the communication process to avoid the limitations of design thinking.

Week 14-Independent Learning Week Q&A
We don't have classes this week, but the teacher arranged for us to go to school from 12-2 on Tuesday to check the progress of the final assignment. He will give us some feedback. I built the big frame of blender, and the teacher gave me some feedback:
I should add a base to the original foundation to give it some thickness.
The stairs above can be covered with a roof, and the sunshade building next to it needs to be changed, it's not very beautiful.
The corridor on the second floor can be changed, it feels very narrow and it's difficult for people to pass through.

I have conceived and added the specific form of the device on paper.

Reflection
In general, there are indeed many good ideas and practices in my design process, but there is still room for improvement in structural rationality and space utilization. I will carefully analyze and make targeted improvements based on the teacher's feedback, and will achieve better results in future design projects.
Week 15-Modeling improvements-Final
Today in class, I showed my blender model to the teacher. The teacher suggested that I add fences to the plane and stairs on the second floor so that people will not fall when walking. He suggested that my material should be mainly "light" and recommended the Muji style. I found a few examples of Muji style.

The teacher explained the requirements of our homework in class. We will make an A2-sized poster at the end, which should include the title introduction, design development, a design element, 3 principles, and rendering perspectives from different angles. The teacher suggested that we can download Lumion software to further render and apply materials after building the model on Blender.
I encountered some problems during the design process. In this modeling blender, the total number of faces was more than 100 million, which caused a lot of lag in modeling on blender. Then I also tried to enter the lumion software. After entering, my entire modeling fbx file crashed, and the file size was too high. Because I added the vine plug-in material lighting panel and other things to the rendering, it was very laggy, and the number of faces was also very high. If the number of faces was small, it would be ugly, and the whole thing would look like a white model with color added.

I explained this to my teacher, and he told me to reduce the number of faces, and then put the vine materials in Lumion, so I don't need to put plug-ins in Blender, so it won't be so laggy.
I tried to reduce the number of faces, and then put the vines in it, but later I found that the rendering effect of the vines was not as good as the one made by Blender, because they were all traditional green plant materials, and there were no flower materials. I could only fill the color inside the flowers but not apply the materials. The effect was not very good, so I discussed it with the teacher again and finally decided to render it in Blender. When making the rendering, you can add a few little people to make it more realistic.

I searched on some websites about blender's rendering methods and how to change the face value.
First, can hide objects with too many faces, then enter the rendering preset mode to see the lighting effect. After adjusting the lighting effect, return to the view shading mode, adjust the camera perspective window, and click render directly.
This is my final rendering.

Reflection
During this modeling and rendering assignment, I experienced a growth process from confusion to gradual clarity, and also gained many valuable experiences and lessons.

At first, when I showed my blender model to the teacher, the teacher suggested adding fences and second-floor stairs to ensure pedestrian safety, and emphasized that the material should be mainly "light" MUJI style. This made me realize that a good model should not only focus on the appearance, but also consider the actual usage scenarios and details, which often make the model more realistic and humane.

In the assignment requirements for making A2-size posters, I understand that a complete design work needs to include title introduction, design development, design elements, three major principles, and rendering views from different angles. This allows me to learn to fully display my design ideas and results. Each part is like a piece of a puzzle, which together constitutes a complete and rich design picture.

However, in the actual operation process, I encountered many technical difficulties. The number of model faces exceeded 100 million, which caused serious jams in blender modeling, which made me deeply realize the huge impact of the number of model faces on the running efficiency of the software. When I tried to import the model into Lumion, the fbx file crashed and was too large because I added too many plug-in materials and light panels. Although I tried to solve the problem by reducing the number of faces and putting the vine material into Lumion, I found that the rendering effect of the vine in Lumion was not as good as blender, and there was a lack of flower materials. I could only fill the color of the flower but could not apply the material, and the effect was not satisfactory. After discussing with the teacher, I finally decided to render in blender and learned that adding some small characters could make the scene more realistic.

In this process, I learned how to find solutions to problems. By searching for blender's rendering methods and changing face value techniques on the website, I mastered a series of operations such as hiding objects with too many faces, entering the rendering preset mode to view the lighting effect, returning to the view shading mode after adjustment, and adjusting the camera view window before rendering directly. This made me understand that I should not give up easily when encountering problems, but should actively explore and learn. Every trial and error is an opportunity for growth.

This assignment gave me a deeper understanding and mastery of modeling and rendering, and also made me realize that in the design process, I should pay attention to details, consider practical applications, and constantly learn and explore new technologies and methods to solve problems. In future studies and practice, I will pay more attention to these aspects, constantly improve my abilities, and strive to create better works.
